THOTS(pronounced "Thoughts") is a 6-piece outfit, including drums, bass, guitar, keys a DJ and an MC. THOTS are a predominantly Hip-Hop influenced band incorporating sounds from various genres of music including Rock, reggae jazz and many more...
Their songs are derived from a book written by Marcus Zusack called 'The Bookthief', and its story centers around a little girl living during the Nazi reign in Germany. She steals books which were meant to be burned during the holocaust and learns to read from them. The name of the band is taken from a movie starring Samuel L. Jackson called 'A Caveman's Valentine'. He plays the part of a somewhat insane street dweller, but hidden beneath his cloak, he is also a piano prodigy. He states during the film that his love for his daughter will drive him to build Tree Houses On The Sea. This appears to be impossible to most people, but to THOTS it is their reality. The band has a heavy metal drummer(Ross), a Rock lead guitarist(Dylan), a full on Jazz bassist(Mo), a very popular(and I mean with the ladies) jazz/hip-hop producer keyboard specialist(Taktics), our friend on the Decks, Scratch Dj Kaptain Kut, and an outstanding MC known to many - Raheem aka Patmos 17!!!
With all those forces combined THOTS has set out on a marvelous expedition since early June 2008. They have played hundreds of shows in a short space of time the biggest including Splashy Fen, Hip-Hop vs Reggae(with 340ml) held at UKZN, an exciting and outstanding tour to Capetown, and many more. Their unique ability to fuse various styles and artforms, and put on a blistering show time after time has created an enigma around the band.
Nonetheless, and they say so themselves, that they are still babies making babies... A newbreed, a spirit born into battle, they are tomorrows Music. |
